Evelyne (née Bastlin) Houdek, a resident of Carpinteria since 1987, turned 100 on Jan. 9. Houdek was born in Chicago, and after marrying her late husband Larry in 1941, she moved to White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and raised three daughters. After Larry retired, the Houdeks moved to Carpinteria, which Houdek often called, “the best move they ever made!” Houdek has three daughters, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is a longtime member of Carpinteria Community Church and is active in the American Scandinavian Foundation of Santa Barbara.
